ROSEVILLE, CA — To maximize the impact of their field plans and avoid duplicating efforts as they work to defeat Congressman Tom McClintock, the California Away Team, Flip the 14, and Sacramento Labor Council today announced that they are merging their field operations in California’s 4th Congressional District.
Their joint field outreach is focused on reaching newly registered voters, voters registered for the first time in 2016, and voters who have consistently missed mid-term elections.
The Sacramento Labor Council and Flip the 14 announced their joint partnership in March. The Cal Away Team has been conducting canvasses in CA-04 since late 2017, and they have already identified 7,000 priority voters who have pledged to vote in the November 2018 election. Flip the 14’s field analysis of CA-04 estimates the need to turn out or convert 68,400 total new voters to defeat Congressman McClintock.
Doug Linney, Flip the 14’s Campaign Manager, California Away Team’s Shabbir Safdar, and Fabrizio Sasso, the Executive Director of the Sacramento Labor Council, AFL-CIO, issued the following statement:
“It will take a movement to defeat Congressman McClintock, and each of our organizations has an important role to play. We bring unique strengths to the table, and together, we are greater than the sum of our parts. This is an alliance of working people, the Resistance, conscientious Americans woken up to the chaos and dysfunction in Washington, and every CA-04 resident tired of a politician like Tom McClintock who just isn’t looking out for us.”
The three organizations have not endorsed in the Democratic primary and are focused on laying the groundwork for victory for whomever advances past the June primary. People interested in volunteering in CA-04 can sign up at https://www.calawayteam.com/volunteer_in_ca_04.
CA-04 is identified as a swingable district by the Cook Political Report, and the district is bluer than PA-18, where Democrat Conor Lamb just defeated his Republican challenger in a special election.
