Middle Class Tax Hike Returns to House

The fight to stop the GOP tax scam isn’t over yet!

In the dead of night on Saturday, Republicans in the U.S. Senate passed a tax hike on most Americans earning $75,000 or less a year. It was their version of the tax scam that House Republicans approved on November 16th. It passed by the narrowest of margins, 51-49, with every Democrat standing up for working and middle class Americans.

Now, Republicans in the House and Senate have to merge their bills through what’s known as a conference committee, which will most likely necessitate a new vote in the House.

Here in California, we can help stop the GOP tax scam if we peel away enough Republicans votes. 11 of California’s 14 Republicans voted for the GOP tax scam the first time around, but the Senate version raises taxes on even more middle class families. We need to up the pressure. All 14 need to hear from us again.

Here are three steps you can take to fight back:

  1. Let your favorite local Resistance group know about Flip the 14’s walk pieces focused on the 11 California Republicans who voted for the GOP’s middle class tax hike. They are available for free to download, print, and distribute, and they highlight how the tax vote by Reps. Ken Calvert, Paul Cook, Jeff Denham, Duncan Hunter, Steve Knight, Doug LaMalfa, Kevin McCarthy, Devin Nunes, Ed Royce, David Valadao, and Mimi Walters harms Californians.

  2. Call the California 14 and tell them to vote against the reconciled GOP tax bill. You can find their phone numbers here. Make sure to spread the word among your friends and family who live in the 14 districts held by a Republican.

  3. Chip in and help us fight back.

Congressional Republicans are rigging the economy to reward their wealthiest and most powerful donors. We’re going to make sure that if they sign onto the final tax bill, they’re signing onto their own retirement as we take back Congress.
