Flip The 14

As the Collusion Scandal Grips Washington, California’s 14 Remain Silent (But not about Starbucks or Merle Haggard)

For anyone who just emerged from a cave, let me update you on the biggest story in America right now. We’ll get to California’s 14 Republican representatives in just a moment.

On Saturday, the New York Times reported that Donald Trump, Jr., the President’s son, met with a Russian lawyer connected to the Russian government. He told the Times they primarily discussed adoptions. The meeting also included Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and a top presidential advisor, and Paul Manafort, who was Trump’s campaign manager at the time. All heavy hitters for Team Trump.

By Monday, we knew that was a lie. The meeting wasn’t really about adoptions. They thought the Russian lawyer had dirt on Hillary Clinton, a fact Trump, Jr. confirmed.

By Tuesday, after the New York Times made it clear that they had the e-mail exchanges that led to the meeting, Trump, Jr. dumped the e-mail chain on Twitter to get ahead of the story.

To call this email chain a bombshell is an understatement. Trump, Jr. was told that “the Crown prosecutor of Russia … offered to provide the Trump campaign with some official documents and information that would incriminate Hillary [Clinton] and her dealings with Russia and would be very useful to your father. This is obviously very high level and sensitive information but is part of Russia and its government’s support for Mr Trump.”

Junior Trump’s response: “If it’s what you say I love it.”

There’s a lot more to this story, but the big reveal here is that we now have conclusive proof that the Trump family and Trump campaign were willing to collude with the Russian government to dig up dirt on Clinton. For the California 14, this is the biggest scandal to hit Washington since they’ve been in Congress. They must be up in arms, right? Right?!

I went to Twitter to find out.

Rep. Devin Nunes, the Chair of the House Intelligence Committee, hasn’t posted since June 28th. That post? “The Late, Great Russian Collusion Myth.” Awkward!

Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, the #2 Republican in the House, retweeted a couple posts on the naming of a post office in Bakersfield after Merle Haggard. Unfortunately, Trump family collusion apparently doesn’t get on the Majority Leader’s “fightin’ side.”

Rep. Jeff Denham tells us he’s cosponsoring a bill to allow off-road vehicles in the Clear Creek Management Area, but he’s got nothing to say about Trump, Jr.’s Russian excursion.

Rep. Darrell Issa is on top of a new Starbucks in Temecula. Hopefully he can find an old copy of the New York Times there, because he seems unaware of the collusion scandal.

Rep. Ed Royce posted a very nice “Flipagram” collection of photos from the 4th of July. He apparently missed the fireworks engulfing the highest office in the land.

Rep. Steve Knight retweeted five facts about the F-35. It’s a cool story, but the biggest news of the week apparently whizzed by his account.

Rep. Mimi Walters posted about treatment options for opioid abuse. It’s an important issue with bipartisan support. We could use that bipartisanship to get to the bottom of the Trump campaign’s willingness to collude with Russia.

Rep. David Valadao posted about a water bill, but he has nothing to say about the storm brewing over the Trump campaign gleefully jumping on the opportunity to acquire dirt from a foreign adversary.

Rep. Doug LaMalfa retweeted an important update on a wildfire, but he’s silent on the Trump, Jr. scandal.

Congressmen Ken Calvert, Paul Cook, Duncan Hunter, Tom McClintock, and Dana Rohrabacher haven’t said anything about anything. Kudos for consistency I guess.

California sends 14 Republicans to Washington. But when we have the Trump family ADMITTING that they were willing to collude with the Russian government, all 14 were silent, at least on Twitter. This is about the integrity of our elections and our faith in the patriotism of the people in the highest office in the land. If the California 14 aren’t going to lead, they need to get out of the way.
