CA49 - Darrell Issa

**UPDATE: Issa retiring in 2018! This is now an open seat.**

Congressman Darrell Issa, the second richest person in Congress, made his fortune selling those annoying car alarms that wake you up in the middle of the night every time a car drives by. If that’s not enough to want him out of Congress, he spent the Obama years fixated on fake scandals that led absolutely nowhere, only to fall suddenly quiet with Trump in the White House. After winning his 2016 reelection by just 1,600 votes, he viciously lashed out against his opponent, filing a lawsuit so frivolous that a judge ordered him to pay $45,000 to cover his opponent’s legal fees. This will be one of the most contested races in the country. Stay tuned.

Congressman Issa has consistently voted against Medicaid, yet:

  • 19% of the children in CA-49 are on Medicaid or CHIP, and
  • 8% of the adults in CA-49 are on Medicaid

Congressman Issa has consistently voted against the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which helps families in need provide healthy food for children and seniors, yet:

  • 11,123 households in CA-49 receive SNAP, and 29% of them have a senior 60 or older in the household and 66.2% of them have a child under 18

Congressman Issa voted dozens of times to repeal the Affordable Care Act, even though it has contributed to a substantial increase in the number of insured CA-49 residents:

  • Drop In Uninsured Rate Thanks to the Affordable Care Act in CA-49: 46.7%, from 15% to 8%
  • Number of CA-49 Residents Covered Under the ACA’s Medicaid Expansion: 43,400
  • Number of CA-49 Residents Covered Through the ACA’s Marketplace Under Covered California: 26,400

Congressman Issa has accepted $54,270 from the NRA.
